Fruit pigment drawing on hand dyed calico, foraged Camden branches

Pilgrimage: a walk to a place of spiritual significance, often a place of gathering.

A relic of a 22 minute pilgrimage (from my front door to Primrose Hill Viewpoint, London, UK) the tapestry, cradled by foraged branches, is hand dyed with natural pigments and imbued with imagined illustrations and memory maps from the walk, finger painted echoing childhood techniques and cave drawings: an ode to ancient practices echoing in contemporary life. These acts are not distant fragments of a mystical past, but living, tangible moments in the tender, everyday poetry of existence. The conversation is also concerned with the experience of these rituals, holding the nuances of individual bodies. A disability which makes a pilgrimage of weeks, days or hours out of reach, invites me to explore and reclaim the act of pilgrimage within my abilities. Carrying physical and mental resistance, this 22 minute pilgrimage in my new home city was an invitation to embed these acts as a fundamental part of my being, affirming that adapting to our own needs is part of the magic.
